How much do local movers cost in NYC?
Studio moves typically run $380–$550, 1-bedrooms $540–$780, 2-bedrooms $780–$1,150, and 3-bedrooms $1,150–$1,650. Your exact price depends on distance between buildings, floor count (walk-ups cost more), elevator access, and inventory size. We provide flat-rate quotes so the price never changes on move day.
Do you handle walk-up apartments without elevators?
Yes — walk-ups are a regular part of NYC moving. We bring stair blankets, padding, and the right crew size for any floor count. For 4th-floor walk-ups and above, we typically send 1–2 extra movers at no extra charge.
Can you move me on short notice?
Often, yes. We regularly handle same-day and next-day moves, especially for studio and 1-bedroom apartments. For larger moves, 3–7 days’ notice is preferred but we can usually accommodate less.
Do I need a Certificate of Insurance for my building?
Most NYC doorman buildings require a COI. We provide this free of charge — just send us your building’s insurance requirements and we’ll get it handled within 24 hours.
How long does a local move take?
Studios typically take 2–3 hours, 1-bedrooms 3–4 hours, 2-bedrooms 4–6 hours, and 3-bedrooms 6–8 hours. Walk-ups and long-carry situations add time. Our flat-rate pricing means the time doesn’t affect your bill.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Excellence Moving holds an active NYC DOT license (T-31340) and carries full cargo and liability insurance. We’re happy to provide proof of insurance to your building management.
What’s not included in the flat rate?
Almost everything is included. Optional add-ons (not required for most moves): custom crating for fine art, full-value protection upgrade (currently 60¢/lb included), and long-term storage beyond 30 days.
Do you move pianos, safes, and antiques?
Yes — pianos, safes up to 800 lbs, antiques, artwork, gym equipment, pool tables, and other specialty items. We bring specialized equipment and trained movers for these. There’s usually a small additional fee for specialty items, quoted upfront.
